The NI SCXI-1540 (Part Number: 777966-40) is a Linear Variable Differential Transformers or LVDT Module, which has the required signal conditioning to measure signals from transformer-based ratiometric position sensors, such as LVDTs, rotary variable differential transformers (RVDTs), and resolvers. This module has 4 and 5-wire connections for LVDTs and RVDTs. When this module is implemented into an SCXI system, the user has the capability to scan the analog input channels of the SCXI-1540 module, as well as other modules, at rates as fast as 333 kS/s. There is also a random scanning function, which allows the user to choose the specific channels from which they wish to obtain information.
Furthermore, the SCXI 1540 has an autocalibration feature through NI-DAQ or LabVIEW VI without the need for external hardware. The user does not need to detach sensor wiring to complete an autocalibration. The output is internally wrapped back to the input, enabling the user to take stock of errors in excitation and input circuitry. The correction constants from the autocalibration are saved in the EEPROMs found on every module. The NI-DAQ driver software utilizes the constants to adjust for the gain and offset blunders of every channel.
The gain, level, wire mode, and frequency on the NI SCXI-1540 are set for each channel and do not require the use of jumpers. This module can be configured with Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) or with function calls to NI-DAQ. In addition, the user can choose any quantity of channels to synchronize to the same frequency.
